Driver Assistive Truck Platooning is an automated system that controls inter-vehicle spacing using a network of sensors that allows trucks to travel at closer distances than is safe for manual operation. The system communicates data between two trucks and automatically controls engine and braking in real time which allows for the tight formations.
The ATRI is working in coordination with two different US Department of Transportation-sponsored research teams and will conduct its analysis based on industry feedback to determine what degree of adoption Truck Platooning may have in the future.
