The Bestpass-organized "Operation: Big Wheels for Heroes" touch-a-truck fundraiser and public awareness event exceeded its goal of raising funds to help support Wreaths Across America that honors veterans at Arlington National Cemetery.
The Bestpass fundraiser was held in Albany, N.Y. on Sept. 27.
Bestpass' goals for the event included honoring truck drivers, emergency workers and veterans; raising public awareness of the trucking industry; and raising enough money to sponsor a truckload of wreaths through the TCA’s Truckload of Respect program.
“The public response of more than 500 attendees was tremendous, and all three of those goals were met with huge success,” said Alison Knowlton, director of communications for Bestpass.
The event featured a wide range of trucks, heavy equipment, and emergency vehicles on display for attendees to walk around and sit in. Special vehicles from companies like Walmart, construction equipment and an excavator used in 9/11 recovery efforts rounded out the different sights for visitors.
“Events like this, that allow the public to get hands on and learn about working trucks and drivers, help to dispel negative stereotypes and foster the positive public image our industry deserves,” said Kendra Hems, president of the New York State Motor Truck Association.
