A truck pull-off is among the construction projects getting under way in West Virginia as the summer construction season stars.

The truck pull-off will be built at the top of the Sandstone Grade on I-64 in Raleigh County. The project involves grading, drainage, a 1,000-feet parking area, ramps and signs.
Sandstone Mountain has a 7 percent grade and has been the scene of many wrecks involving tractor-trailers. Truck drivers will be required to stop and read information regarding the grade and the speed limit for descending the mountain. Truckers who do not stop will be cited.
The pull-off is only one of more than 100 projects the state plans to tackle during the construction season, which normally runs from April to November. Many of those projects are resurfacing work.
Among the other projects scheduled to start this summer:

• extending the six-lane widening of I-64 in Kanawha County;

• widening I-64 to five lanes at the U.S. 35 interchange in Putnam County;

• upgrading U.S. 50 near Parksburg to
  four lanes;

• upgrading state Route 2 between Parkersburg and St. Mary's to five lanes;

• completing a four-lane upgrade for state Route 2 in Brooke County.
