Maher Terminals, a large stevedore at the Port of New York and New Jersey, is extending its gate hours by two hours a day. The new hours will be 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Maher also is adding more truck lanes and personnel to expedite traffic through their terminals. Meanwhile, other terminals in the port are adding new equipment and considering additional gate hours, according to the the Bi-State Harbor Carriers Conference of the New Jersey Motor
Truck Assn. Carriers have been pressing for longer hours at the terminal gates in order to reduce turnaround time and speed the flow of cargo in and out of the container complex in Elizabeth and Newark, NJ.
