A 12-mile stretch of Interstate 94 in Wisconsin will have one lane closed in each direction for construction between April 1 and Labor Day.

The roadway in Racine County is worn out, according to the state Department of Transportation. But the highway carries 85,000 vehicles on that stretch each day, about 15 percent of them trucks. The DOT is warning drivers to plan ahead to avoid traffic jams.
The speed limit in the construction zone will be cut from 65 mph to 55 mph throughout the project, which is expected to last until Oct. 1. Various on-and off-ramps along the stretch will be closed at different times, with the northbound on-ramp from State Highway 11 to be closed throughout the six-month construction period.
