. DEF will be required for many heavy transport trucks equipped with selective catalytic reduction technology to reduce emissions beginning in January 2010.

Last month, Pilot Travel Centers announced it will install the Gilbarco dispensers at 100 locations.

The new dispenser design includes an integrated CRIND card reader that interfaces to payment and fleet card networks, alphanumeric keypad applications, and loyalty programs that are supported by the retailer's existing point of sale system.

"Our innovative design leverages our European experience in this area, meeting today's regulatory challenges and preparing customers for the future," said Richard Browne, vice president of marketing for North America at Gilbarco Veeder-Root. "Our unique H frame design also allows for future offerings of multiple fuels at one pump."

The dispenser is built to prevent DEF freezing and crystallization through its thermostat-controlled, heated cabinet and optional hanging hardware. The dispenser's hydraulics are stainless steel to protect against corrosion.

Other features include:

• Bar code scanner
• Alphanumeric keypad for entry of VIN or FlexPay Encrypting PIN Pad for PCI-compliant PIN-based debit
• FlexPay Secure Card Reader
• Contactless card reader
• Call button
• Intercom speakers
• Five-button/incremental programmable preset
• Two-level price posting for cash and credit pricing
