Work is scheduled to start Friday on the Interstate 5 "Boat Section" repair project in downtown Sacramento, Calif.


The California Department of Transportation recently announced plans to repair what's called the Boat Section, a portion of Interstate 5 that runs through downtown Sacramento. The project is expected to start May 30 and last about seven weeks. The work will necessitate closing lanes so that repairs can be performed around the clock, seven days a week.

Repair Project Tentative Schedule:

Friday, May 30 at 8 p.m. - All northbound lanes of I-5 closed from the U.S. Highway 50/Capitol City Freeway Interchange to Richards Blvd. (Q street ramp will remain open from northbound I-5)

Monday, June 9 at 5 a.m. - All lanes open for five days

Friday, June 13 at 8 p.m.- All southbound lanes of I-5 closed from Richards Blvd. to the U.S. Highway 50 (two lanes will be open for traffic exiting at J Street)

Monday, June 23 at 5 a.m. - All lanes open for four days

Thursday, June 26 at 8 p.m. - All northbound lanes of I-5 closed from the U.S. Highway 50/Capitol City Freeway Interchange to Richards Blvd. (Q street ramp will remain open from northbound I-5)

Thursday, July 3 at 5 a.m. - All lanes open for six days

Tuesday, July 8 at 8 p.m. - All southbound lanes of I-5 closed from Richards Blvd. to the U.S. Highway 50/Capitol City Freeway interchange (two lanes will be open for traffic exiting at J Street)

Tuesday, July 15 at 5 a.m. - Work on this portion of project is complete

This schedule is tentative and remains subject to change dependent on final approvals, materials testing, weather, etc.
