SAF-Holland: New Haldex Air Treatment System Promises Easier Maintenance
SAF-Holland has added a new air treatment system to its Haldex family, designed to fit applications between standard and severe-duty use.

SAF-Holland's new Haldex Apollo SDx air system is suitable for a wide range of commercial vehicle applications.

The ApolloSDx is ideal for over-the-road line-haul, dump trucks, roll-off and rural refuse trucks, straight and service trucks, terminal tractors, agricultural vehicles, school buses, and emergency vehicles, SAF-Holland officials said during a press conference at the American Trucking Associations Technology & Maintenance Council annual meeting in Nashville.
Haldex already offered its Purest and Dryest air dryer systems for standard commercial vehicle applications, as well as the GeminiMDx for severe duty. The new ApolloSDx is designed to fit in that gap, explained Barry Williams, senior commercial product manager air controls for Haldex.
For over-the-road applications, he said, the new system would be a good fit for operations that are going back and forth between temperature extremes that cause water condensation, or for operation in dusty locations.
Why Air Treatment is So Important for Your Truck's Air Brakes
Air treatment systems remove water vapor, moisture, oil particles, and other contaminants from the compressed air generated by the truck’s compressor before it reaches the air brake reservoirs. This protects against corrosion, freezing enters, and component failure.
Moisture in the air system can compromise brake performance. Left unchecked, moisture leads to frozen lines, increased downtime, and costly repairs.

Without good air treatment systems, a truck's air brakes are subject to corrosion and other damage.

How the Haldex ApolloSDx Works
At the core of the ApolloSDx is the Consep (Condenser/Separator) and the Purest Air Dryer, which features an integrated purge volume, eliminating the need for a separate tank.
The Consep pre-treats incoming air, removing up to 90% of contaminants before the air reaches the air dryer. This extends the life of the Multi-Treatment Cartridge, which will remove up to 99% of any remaining moisture in the air.

The ApolloSDx configuration delivers up to 34 SCFM, filtering and drying air to extend the life of downstream components.
The new air treatment system can be installed by the OEM or retrofitted by fleets. The ApolloSDx features a compact design, which optimizes undercarriage space for flexible mounting and easy maintenance.
A preassembled system on a custom mounting bracket enables quick installation, with the Consep positioned on either the left or right side to accommodate different vehicle configurations.
Haldex: Easy Air Dryer Maintenance
The Purest Air Dryer used in the ApolloSDx features integrated and easily accessible components, making it simpler to service, for reduced maintenance time.
Changing the MTC+ dessicant and filter cartridge requires only ½ inch of vertical clearance above the canister housing, making for easier replacement.
Williams explained that a locking collar that takes four bolts allows to slide in and out the cartridge, that’s huge for space and also doesn’t seize up on neck like spin on.
The new air treatment system is currently available.
