Web mapping and routing provider OnTerra Systems has introduced its RouteSavvy Premium API, a new version of its route optimization for software vendors and software development teams.

RouteSavvy’s APIs are designed to more efficiently route vehicles involved in deliveries, pickups and service calls to save time and money for the companies involved.

The API is meant to be easily integrated by independent software development companies and enterprise software development teams at a lower cost than developing their own custom route optimization system.

The RouteSavvy Premium API offers route optimization functionality including Time Windows, Commercial-Truck Road Restrictions, HazMat Driving Restrictions, Real-Time Traffic, Predictive Traffic Routing, Avoid Areas and the capability of including up to 100 stops in a route.

Time Windows allow users to specify a window of time when drivers need to arrive at a particular stop. RouteSavvy can calculate the optimal route for arriving in that window of time.

The API can provide routes based on height, width, length or weight restrictions on certain roads and recommend an efficient, optimized route appropriate for the vehicle.  It can also factor in hazardous materials road restrictions and allow users to generate an optimized route based on the restriction.

RouteSavvy can access real-time traffic data to identify roads with traffic or delays and route around them as they occur, on the fly. It can also access traffic history information to provide an optimized route based on future traffic conditions.

The API can provide routes using up to 100 stops or 50 stops with traffic. This allows developers of routing systems to optimize larger routes for multiple days. Lastly, RoutSavvy allows users to specify an area that they want drivers to avoid, such as high congestion, high crime, bad weather, or bad road conditions.

“Our new RouteSavvy Premium API is significant because it offers advanced route optimization features typically available only in custom route optimization systems that typically cost millions of dollars,” said Steve Milroy, OnTerra Systems CEO.
