This award is presented to a public or private organization, or government agency that has made the greatest contribution to the advancement of the intermodal freight transportation industry during the previous year.
The award presentation ceremony will take place during the Opening General Session of the 2010 Intermodal Expo on Monday, November 15, at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/ Broward County Convention Center.
The IANA Awards Committee recognized Direct ChassisLink for its innovative development of a neutral chassis pool that provides drayage companies with chassis that are able to be used with any ocean carriers' containers. This dynamic and creative approach has provided many drayage company vehicles more efficient movement through terminals, which saves significant time while also reducing diesel emissions, according to IANA.
The Port of Long Beach was singled out for its leadership and development of a variety of port-related "green" initiatives; especially for its efforts towards the development and expedited implementation of its Clean Trucks Program. The Committee noted that the program has served as a model for seaports around the country by decreasing air pollution nearly 80 percent from drayage trucks serving the port.
