"ATL will deal with other intermodal 3PLs, freight brokers and trucking companies,” said Leonard Lewensohn, CEO of PTA Holdings. “ATL will acquire over-the-road freight brokers and intermodal rail brokers that will accelerate the growth of the company and enable the development of enough freight volume to negotiate and hold direct railroad contracts.”

The initial focus of ATL will be centered on the 300-miles freight base that surrounds Chicago, though ATL plans to open additional offices in Los Angeles and St. Louis.

Meantime, Newgistics has been re-branded as ReTrans Freight, a wholly owned subsidiary of ReTrans, which purchased the company in April. ReTrans is based in Fall River, Mass.

With this acquisition, ReTrans Freight, which as been in domestic less-than-truckload and truckload freight management since 1982, says it is expanding its service offerings to include intermodal, international and Canadian distribution and warehousing, in addition to both domestic and international air.
