About 80 vehicles crashed in snowy weather Sunday on Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania near the Ohio line, closing westbound lanes for more than eight hours.
Various news outlets reported the crash occurred in Lackawannock Township eight miles from Ohio at about 11:30 a.m.
No one was killed. Officials were unsure how many people were injured or how seriously.
A Pennsylvania state trooper reported the accident began when a truck pulled into the passing lane and jackknifed. He said two other trucks skidded sideways, blocking both lanes. Oncoming vehicles began crashing into them.
About a dozen people were taken to United Community Hospital in Grove City and treated for broken bones, cuts and bruises, nursing supervisor Fran McCleary said. The hospital admitted one person and sent three others to Pittsburgh hospitals.
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, the driver of the first truck that jackknifed was cited for speeding.
