The Truckload Carriers Association raised $265,000 at an annual gala Tuesday night benefitting the Wreaths Across America campaign.
The money raised will help place remembrance wreaths on every gravestone at the Arlington National Cemetery in honor of its 150th anniversary. The wreaths will be taken to Arlington in a truck convoy down the East Coast culminating in a wreath laying ceremony on December 13.
The event attracted a mix of attendees from high ranking military personnel and veterans to politicians, representatives from Arlington and members of the trucking industry. The event was hosted by Dana Perino, co-host of Fox’s The Five and former press secretary for George W. Bush.
A large portion of the donations came from the Walmart Foundation of Bentonville, Ark. which donated $150,000 for the second year in a row.
The gala held silent auctions for vacations, jewelry and other prizes and concluded with a concert by country singer Lindsay Lawler. Lawler is also the spokesperson for the TCA’s Highway Angel program.
Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization founded to continue the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
